What is an hourly to salary calculator?
An hourly to salary calculator converts an hourly wage into other common pay periods. People use it when they want to compare an hourly job with a salaried offer, check what a posted rate might mean over a year, or estimate gross pay before benefits and taxes.
Hourly wage is the amount paid for one hour of work. Weekly gross pay is that rate multiplied by paid hours in a week. Annual gross pay is weekly gross pay multiplied by paid workweeks in a year. None of those figures is take-home pay.
How to convert hourly pay to annual salary
The basic conversion is:
Hourly wage × hours per week × workweeks per year = estimated annual gross pay
Example: $25.00 × 40 hours × 52 weeks = $52,000.00 per year. Weekly gross pay in that example is $1,000.00. Average monthly gross pay is the annual amount divided by 12, which is $4,333.33. Average biweekly pay divides the year into 26 periods. Average semimonthly pay divides the year into 24 periods.
This example is an illustration, not a quote, payroll result or promise of income.
Hourly pay with unpaid time off
Workweeks per year default to 52 because many people work year-round. If you have unpaid time off, lower that number. Two unpaid weeks is often entered as 50. The calculator then reduces annual and monthly averages because there are fewer paid weeks. It does not model unpaid breaks within a shift.
How overtime changes your estimated annual pay
When Include overtime is on, the calculator uses the regular hours, overtime hours and multiplier you enter. It multiplies the hourly wage by the multiplier to get an overtime hourly rate, then adds regular weekly pay and overtime weekly pay. It does not apply state overtime rules, and it does not decide whether a role is exempt or nonexempt.
Hourly pay versus salary
Hourly pay changes with hours worked. A salary is usually stated as an annual amount and paid on a schedule such as biweekly or semimonthly. This tool helps you compare the gross math. It does not convert an estimate into a contractual salary, and it does not include bonuses, commissions or benefits that sometimes appear in salaried offers.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate annual salary from an hourly wage?
Multiply your hourly wage by the hours you work each week, then multiply that weekly total by the number of paid workweeks in the year. The result is an estimated annual gross amount before taxes and deductions.
How much is $25 an hour per year?
At $25.00 an hour, 40 hours a week and 52 paid workweeks, the estimated annual gross pay is $52,000.00. Changing hours, unpaid time off or overtime will change the result.
Does this calculator include overtime?
Only if you turn on Include overtime and enter regular hours, overtime hours and a multiplier. The tool applies the numbers you enter. It does not decide whether you are legally entitled to overtime.
Does the estimate include taxes?
No. Results are gross estimates before taxes, deductions, insurance, retirement contributions, benefits, bonuses and commissions.
How should I account for unpaid time off?
Lower Workweeks per year below 52 to reflect unpaid weeks. For example, two unpaid weeks is often entered as 50 workweeks.
What is the difference between biweekly and semimonthly pay?
Biweekly pay assumes 26 pay periods per year. Semimonthly pay assumes 24 pay periods per year. Biweekly is not the same as twice a month.
